As our understanding of skin evolves, personal care products need to be substantiated by deeper knowledge. Consumers perceive what scientists reveal: the skin is a living, sensitive ecosystem, constantly renewing itself and interacting with its environment. Visible performance is no longer enough. Cosmetic actives are expected to support the skin's natural mechanisms, modulating interconnected biological networks – the skin microbiota as well as the skin's nervous and immune systems. Hence the need for truly holistic strategies based on ingredients with the highest affinity for the skin.

OUR LABORATORIES AROUND THE WORLD
The Evonik Skin Institute is organized into a network of laboratories in Europe, India and Asia, which serve as centers of expertise and evaluation.
Located in Biopolis the research and development center for biomedical sciences of Singapore, our ESI lab regroups an interdisciplinary team with a focus on the development of new skin models as well as the investigation of the biological mechanisms of action of personal care products based on the BeyondDerm® platform. From cell culture to molecular biology and histology, the laboratory can support complex projects with a broad range of methods.

Our laboratory in Madrid is the heart of SimDerma® screening platform. Here, cells and biological assays are developed and implemented to allow a quick screening of cosmetic ingredients and an identification of their potential.

Located near the headquarter of Evonik and at the heart of Care Solutions activities, our laboratory in Essen allows a close collaboration with product development teams. It has a solid experience of the evaluation of the biological mechanism of action of active ingredients on primary human cells and testing challenging molecules in in vitro setups.
